In secret, behind closed doors meetings, president Barack Obama has reportedly told donors that he intends to unveil new climate measures in answer to their concerns about the $5.3 billion Keystone XL pipeline project that would carry tar sands from Canada to U.S. refineries. The revelation was
revealed by Bloomberg on Thursday.
Details of the plan were not forthcoming, but speculation exists that they could include new emissions regulations through the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) of coal-fired power plants. "In April, the EPA delayed issuing the rule after the electric-power industry objected on legal and technical grounds. Since then, the agency has been rewriting the rule to address those concerns," the report said.
The measure would be a fulfillment of a January 2008 campaign statement Obama made at the San Francisco Chronicle where he said that it was his "plan" to implement a cap and trade system wherein energy prices would "necessarily skyrocket".
Advocates who stand to profit from a carbon tax are pushing for quick action from Obama, with Al Gore being quoted as saying "he needs to get a plan in place."
Though carbon dioxide emissions may have been steady and even rising, there have been no signficant rises in global temperatures since at least 1998. Britain's MET office
admitted earlier this year that temperatures had not risen in accordance with their expections. In fact, contrary to alarmist claims of a CO2-driven Warming nightmare, it is likely the activity of the sun -- specificially, pertaining to the number of sun spots -- are what correlate with heating and cooling patterns on earth, as is
pointed out by Peter Ferrara of Forbes.
Even the very liberal
New York Times was forced to
concede this week that the planet had reached a global warming "plateau" and that "the rise in the surface temperature of earth has been markedly slower over the last 15 years than in the 20 years before that. And that lull in warming has occurred even as greenhouse gases have accumulated in the atmosphere at a record pace."
Hence, could it be that the grant-funded scientists who say that CO2 is the driver of global temperature, instead of it being the other way around, were actually wrong? Perish the thought!
Regardless, it may not matter, as it is doubtful whether Obama cares as much about climate science as he does about destroying the country. A carbon tax would the double-whammy attack he would need to complement his unaffordable healthcare tax to further drive the Middle Class into abject poverty.
