America's problem: Public officials who don't support and defend the Constitution of the United States, and that of their states.
Meet Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro, a tyrant who wants to bring charges against the owners of social media website Gab.com because one of its users shot up a jewish synagogue.
PITTSBURGH - Josh Shapiro, Pennsylvania's attorney general, told Haaretz on Monday that his office was looking into the operation of the social media platform Gab.com, which was used by the gunman behind Saturday’s massacre at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh. ...
“My office is reviewing this platform, which was used by the killer to spread his hateful messages,” Shapiro told Haaretz in an interview. “We have strong first amendment protections in this country, and that’s very important for me, but when that speech includes incitement to violence, that crosses a line. We cannot tolerate that.”
For the record, there was no incitement to violence by the people who own and run Gab. Contrarily, as has been previously pointed out, Gab contacted the FBI as soon as they learned that the account on their platform was alleged to have been associated with the shooter. They backed up the data associated with the account, then terminated it from their platform, and have cooperated with law enforcement throughout the process to bring the necessary evidence forward for the prosecution.
The Fourteenth Amendment has been used by the courts to expand the meaning of the First Amendment to apply to state and local governments, where it originally was only intended to apply to laws passed by Congress. It doesn't matter, as Mr. Shapiro obviously doesn't respect his own state's Constitution either, which says, "The free communication of thoughts and opinions is one of the invaluable rights of man, and every citizen may freely speak, write and print on any subject..."
As do many politicians and bureaucrats, Shapiro pays lip service to the First Amendment as he violates it.
Perhaps a reminder is in order to Mr. Shapiro, and all of the other tyrant-wannabees and media propagandists who like to hear themselves talk, but never say a truthful word. The very reason the First Amendment exists is to protect controversial speech. So-called "hate speech" — which can be defined as vague or narrow as one might wish — is controversial speech, regardless of whether or not you agree with it. Non-controversial speech doesn't warrant protection, as it is never threatened.
Shapiro's actions demonstrate he lacks the necessary qualifications and integrity that should embody a person holding the important office of state attorney general.
