One interesting thing that I didn't get a chance to mention was that the Trump Administration pulled all funding for the United States Institute of Peace. They appear to be a private non-profit but they are actually an independent government agency established in 1984 - Reagan Administration. They were a very prestigious organization.

I was familiar with USIP and I knew they were a very important policy think tank. I went to their website - it's down. So I went to the wayback machine. The blue-green area below the text shows a toggle - REGions. Click anywhere on the area and the global map displays. Click first on the Americas, then Europe, you'll see the regions correspond (I believe) to Mackinder's conception of geographic power centers.
